Job Description

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Mission Integration (Revenue)

In conjunction with the market ED and Board, responsible for the creation, implementation and execution of a market based Mission Delivery business plan.

Recruits, trains, manage and monitors volunteers to expand and/or enhance market based mission delivery activities.

In conjunction with staff from corporate relations and health strategies, facilitates completion of a comprehensive, market based community assessment profile.

Ensure the successful integration of Mission Delivery and revenue activities, particularly special events. Recruit volunteers, especially those representing culturally diverse audiences, to participate on volunteer committee and at events.

In partnership with corporate and health initiatives staff, serve as lead staff for the development and execution of cause related funding and platform activation.

In partnership with Major Gifts, develop initiatives and proposals appropriate major gift funding opportunities.

Volunteer Management

Develop, support and maintains volunteer committees and participates in partnerships which further priority issues.

Identifies and recruits community collaborators to expand and/or enhance mission delivery activities.

Responsible for ensuring that all market based volunteer leadership and staff receive overview of AHA 2020 goals.

Provide direct support to market Board of Directors to lead health related mission focus priorities.

Identify multicultural organizations and partnerships to drive health equity goals.

Manage PTES ambassador network and strategic alliances.

Mission Delivery (Health Strategies)

Responsible for working collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Facilitates accountable team structure to develop, assess, implement and, as appropriate, revise strategies, activities, programs and tactics to achieve market related goals and outcomes in both health strategies and revenue activities.

Assure strategic focus on targeted initiatives to address health equity and issues related to cardiovascular disparities.

In partnership with Health Strategies leadership, guides and assists market based health strategies staff to accomplish market priorities.

Responsible for ensuring all mission delivery volunteer information is captured and entered into the Siebel database system.

Responsible for strategic planning, continuous monitoring, evaluation and assessment of mission delivery activities in the region.

Assume the lead staff role for designated health strategies and activities (i.e. MLC, Community gardens, V4V).

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Min. 3 years in Volunteer Management
  • Min. 3 years in Multi-Cultural Health Leadership
  • Proven experience in leadership roles (3 years)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in public health, education, marketing, public relations and/or community programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience working with community health issues, ability to interact across multiple acculturation levels and socio-economic groups.
  • Experience in recruiting, mobilizing, managing, recognizing and evaluating volunteers. Experience in training others on volunteer management and monitoring progress
  • Demonstrated knowledge of fund raising and maintaining sales relationships at corporate and community levels.
  • Self motivated, highly effective organization and analytical skills, multi-tasking, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to conduct meetings with internal and external clients including interacting with external partners/sponsors representing AHA to the public as necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large projects and events ensuring deadline compliance.
  • Ability to travel and accommodate volunteer scheduling needs beyond regular hours.
  • Demonstrated ability to productively participate in a multi-disciplinary team environment working towards common goals with internal and external clients. Ability to influence team members without supervisory authority
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills in assessing the local market environment and available resources to successfully implement new and existing programs

Physical Requirements:

  • Sight, hearing, sitting, standing, bending, or squatting for most of the day; skills essential for successful communications include: speaking over the phone and writing.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with customers, and to clearly and concisely exchange ideas, facts and information.
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage workflow, work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage project details with limited supervision.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds with the expectation that items in excess of 20 pounds would be broken down into smaller components or additional assistance is required before lifting.
  • Ability to conceptualize, reason through problems, make effective decisions and develop alternative solution and provide excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with the
  • American Heart Association's policies and procedures.
